How does B2B and retail fulfillment work?

B2B and retail fulfillment covers shipments to wholesalers, distributors, boutiques, major retailers, and other business destinations. It is scoped separately from individual DTC parcel fulfillment.

PrepFort can support approved workflows involving purchase orders, case packs, carton labels, pallets, routing guides, advance ship notices, EDI, small-parcel delivery, LTL or FTL freight, consolidation, and delivery appointments. The exact EDI and retailer capability must be confirmed for the specific trading partner.

Information needed before launch

  • Retailer, distributor, marketplace, or customer name
  • Purchase-order and cancellation requirements
  • Routing guide and vendor-compliance documents
  • EDI transaction or ASN requirements
  • SKU, case-pack, carton, and pallet configuration
  • Label, packing-slip, and document specifications
  • Ship window, delivery appointment, and routing deadlines
  • Expected orders, units, destinations, and frequency
  • Freight terms, carrier account, and billing responsibility

Typical workflow

  1. PrepFort reviews the trading-partner requirements and quotes the work.
  2. Inventory, case packs, labels, and system connections are configured.
  3. The purchase order is received or entered and inventory is allocated.
  4. Products are picked, packed, labeled, palletized, and documented to the approved routing guide.
  5. The shipment is tendered to the approved carrier and tracking or freight documentation is recorded.

B2B and retail programs are custom quoted because labor, compliance, EDI, materials, palletization, freight, and appointment requirements vary. Do not send a retail order until the trading-partner workflow is approved.
